Fossil Museum in Fidenza

The Stirone Fossil Museum in Fidenza is a fascinating place for anyone interested in fossils, geology and the ancient history of the Parma area. The museum was founded in 1980 thanks to the work of the local Palaeontology Group and preserves an important collection of fossils, many of which were discovered along the Stirone River.

The exhibition is divided into three main sections. The Stirone Room displays fossils documenting the geological evolution of the area, including shells, molluscs, starfish and remains of marine animals. Some specimens in the collection come from geological periods when this part of northern Italy was covered by the sea.

The Palaeobotany Room is dedicated to fossil plants and the ancient vegetation of the Po Valley, while another section presents minerals and fossils from Italy and other parts of the world.

Among the most interesting exhibits are fossils connected with the extraordinary geological heritage of the Stirone area, including marine remains and a fossilised tree trunk dating back hundreds of thousands of years.

A visit to the Fossil Museum offers an unusual opportunity to discover how the landscape around Fidenza has changed over millions of years and to understand why the Stirone area is so important for palaeontology.
