The Parmigiano Reggiano Museum has moved from its former location in Soragna to Fontevivo, where it reopened on June 13, 2026, inside the historic Capuchin Church, close to the Cistercian Abbey.
The new museum offers visitors an engaging journey through the history, craftsmanship and traditions behind Parmigiano Reggiano PDO, one of Italy's most celebrated cheeses.
The exhibition features more than 150 historical objects, traditional cheesemaking tools, photographs, documents and multimedia installations illustrating the evolution of cheese production.
Visitors can explore every stage of the process, from dairy farming and milk collection to cheesemaking, ageing and quality control.
One of the highlights is the collection of historic copper cheese vats displayed in the former church's apse. Immersive projections, educational activities and optional tastings make the experience particularly enjoyable for families and food enthusiasts.
The museum also explores the important role of Cistercian monks in developing the agricultural traditions that helped shape the region's famous cheese industry.
