Church of Santa Maria Assunta – Sissa Trecasali

Located in the historic centre of Sissa, the Church of Santa Maria Assunta (Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta) is one of the most important religious landmarks in the municipality of Sissa Trecasali, in the province of Parma.

With origins dating back to the Middle Ages, the church has undergone several transformations, combining Romanesque, Baroque and Neoclassical architectural styles.

History and Artistic Heritage

First mentioned in historical documents in 1182, the church was rebuilt in 1459 through the initiative of the Terzi family, the noble rulers of Sissa.

During the 18th century, the building was enlarged and redesigned, creating its present spacious interior with three naves and richly decorated chapels.

Among its most interesting features are the medieval bell tower, historic frescoes, religious paintings and elegant wooden furnishings.

Today, the church remains an important place of worship and a cultural attraction for visitors exploring the history and traditions of the Bassa Parmense.
