Traversetolo Sunday Market – A Historic Tradition Near Parma

The Traversetolo Sunday Market, located in the heart of Traversetolo in the province of Parma, is one of the largest and most popular open-air markets in Emilia-Romagna.

Every Sunday morning, the town centre comes alive with colourful stalls, local traders and visitors looking for fresh produce, clothing, household goods and traditional Italian specialities.

More than a shopping destination, the market is a lively expression of the town's history, culture and community spirit.

History and Tradition

The origins of the Traversetolo Market date back to 1449, when Alessandro Sforza authorised a weekly market in the village.

Originally, the market was an important meeting point for farmers, livestock traders and merchants from the surrounding countryside. Over the centuries, it developed into a major commercial attraction for the Parma area.

Today, the market extends across Piazza Fanfulla and nearby streets, with a wide variety of stalls offering products for everyday life and leisure.

What to Find at the Market

Visitors can discover fresh fruit and vegetables, regional food products, clothing, footwear, accessories, household items and seasonal goods.

A particularly interesting attraction is AgriCultura, the farmers' market held in Piazza Garibaldi, where local producers offer fresh, seasonal and locally sourced agricultural products.

The market is also an excellent opportunity to explore Traversetolo's shops, cafés and traditional food culture.
