The Castle of Puppets (Castello dei Burattini) is one of Parma's most original museums, dedicated to the fascinating world of traditional puppet theatre.

Located in the historic San Paolo Monastery, in the heart of Parma, the museum opened in 2002 and is named after Giordano Ferrari (1905–1987), a celebrated local puppeteer and passionate collector.

The museum displays more than 500 objects, including traditional Italian puppets, marionettes, theatrical scenery, costumes, photographs and historical documents.

Visitors can discover the colourful characters of Italian popular theatre, explore the craftsmanship behind handmade puppets and learn about the traditions passed down through generations of performers.

Particularly interesting is the collection associated with the Ferrari family, whose artistic activity played an important role in preserving Parma's puppet theatre heritage.
