This room was frescoed in 1519 by the young Correggio for the abbess Giovanna da Piacenza, a cultured and refined woman. The ceiling is decorated like a pergola open to the sky, where playful cherubs look out, while the monochrome panels feature mythological scenes inspired by antiquity.
A surprising work for the time, which blends symbolism, elegance and an innovative play of perspective. The goddess Diana is depicted on the hood of the fireplace, emblem of the virtue and independence of the client.
