The Autodromo di Varano de' Melegari, better known as Autodromo Riccardo Paletti, is located about 25 km from Parma, in the heart of the Emilian "Motor Valley". Founded in 1969, the circuit has undergone several modifications over the years, expanding and becoming a point of reference for motor enthusiasts.
The beginning of the project dates back to local enthusiasts, including Ennio Dallara and the mayor Giorgio Bonzani. Initially, the track surrounded the town's sports field, but in 1971 it was extended to 1,800 meters and changed its name to "Autodromo di San Cristoforo". After the tragic death of driver Riccardo Paletti in 1982, the circuit was renamed in his honor, becoming Autodromo Riccardo Paletti in 1983.
In 2002, the track was further extended to 2,375 meters and obtained the FIA international license. Subsequent modifications, such as the reinstatement of the Ickx curve in 2010, brought the current length of the track to 2,360 meters. Today, the circuit has a technical configuration that includes 14 curves (6 right and 8 left) and a main straight of 467 meters.
In addition to hosting car and motorcycle races, the racetrack is also home to road safety activities. Since 1991, the Centro Internazionale Guida Sicura has used the track to organize courses that teach how to improve driving skills, dealing with complex and dangerous driving situations.
