The monument to Padre Lino – Spiritual heart of the Oltretorrente
In Piazzale Picelli, one of the main hubs of the Oltretorrente of Parma, stands the monument to Padre Lino Maupas, a figure much loved by the community of Parma. A Franciscan friar born in France but adopted by Parma, Padre Lino dedicated his entire life to the poorest, prisoners and the marginalized, becoming a living symbol of Christian charity.
The monument, created in 1994 by the sculptor Jucci Ugolotti, portrays him standing with bread in his hand as a sign of charity.
Even today, the people of Parma pass in front of the statue with a deep sense of respect. Some leave flowers or notes, others stop in silence. A small urban space that preserves a great soul.
